Candle Safety & Care

Before your first burn

  • Let your candle cure for about 2 weeks at room temperature before lighting it. This gives the fragrance time to fully set into the wax.

  • Store your candle in a dry place, out of direct sunlight, with the lid on to protect the scent and keep out dust.

  • Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before every burn — including the first one.

Your first burn matters most

  • On the first burn, let the candle burn long enough for the entire top layer to melt edge to edge — this can take 2 to 3 hours depending on the container size.

  • Wax "remembers" the first burn. Skipping this step can cause tunneling, where the candle burns a narrow hole down the middle and leaves wax stranded on the sides for the rest of its life.

  • If your candle's surface ever looks uneven after a burn, a hair dryer on a gentle setting can carefully re-melt and re-level the top.

While it's burning

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always stay in the room while it's lit.

  • Keep candles away from children and pets, and away from anything flammable — curtains, papers, decorations, and other candles.

  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire, and never leave one lit in a bathroom.

  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, or decorative debris.

  • If your candle has decorations on top, keep an eye on them as the candle burns down — trim or remove any decoration that gets close to the flame.

Trimming & maintenance

  • Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every single burn, not just the first. A long wick causes a bigger flame, soot, and uneven burning.

  • Let the wax fully harden between burns before relighting.

  • Never touch or move the wick once wax is liquid — wait until it's solid again.

When it's time to stop

  • Stop burning your candle when about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom. Continuing past that point can overheat the container and become a fire hazard.

  • Never burn a candle all the way down to the container's base.

A couple of things that are totally normal

  • Frosting (a light, whitish texture on the surface or sides) is natural for soy wax and doesn't affect how the candle burns.

  • Small color variation between pours is normal and part of working with natural, hand-poured wax.

In short

Burning a candle safely is simple: trim the wick, never walk away while it's lit, keep it clear of anything flammable, and stop before it burns too low. Following these steps is your responsibility as the candle's owner — we're always happy to answer questions if something looks off.
